'Glee'
By Lesley Goldberg

For 1,800 “Glee” fans — a record audience in the Paley Center’s 27-year history — Saturday was a special night at PaleyFest. Those lucky enough to snag a ticket to the sold-out Saban Theatre panel were treated to “Hello,” a director’s cut of the April 13 return-from-hiatus episode.

But the surprises didn’t end there for the Fox rookie dramedy’s boisterous fans: With nearly the entire cast in attendance — lead Lea Michele (Rachel) was noticeably absent — both the stars and the writers behind the hit musical revealed more gems than a jewelry show could store, the biggest of which co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed.

In what’s sure to be music to the ears of Gleeks everywhere, Fox is said to be finalizing a deal to amplify Glee’s second season.

“Season 2 will be much bigger and much longer,” series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed to us over the weekend at PaleyFest ‘10. “We are talking about doing 25 episodes as opposed to [the customary] 22.”

Murphy added that he hopes to inject the show’s sophomore season with a “sweet feeling… like I loved it when The Brady Bunch went to Hawaii. I want [New Directions] to go to some competition in New York.”

Excited by the prospect of fewer Glee repeats next season? Or are you worried that adding more episodes will dilute the overall quality? Sound off below! And then click here to read our spoilerific recap from Saturday’s Paley panel! (Reporting by Carrie Bell)

Kurt # 7 in Top Fifty Gay TV Characters

  • Mar. 15th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
AfterElton.com recently polled their members as to the best gay and bisexual male characters in Television... and Kurt Hummel was voted number 7!

"Glee creator Ryan Murphy named the character “Kurt Hummel” because Chris Colfer, the actor who plays him, had played Kurt von Trapp in a stage version of The Sound of Music, and because he had the rosy cheeks of a Hummel figurine. Like Kurt von Trapp, Kurt Hummel has definitely been a team player this season – although there’s nothing fragile about him. What’s remarkable about Colfer’s portrayal of Kurt is that he’s taken a character that’s in many ways a gay stereotype – the stylish clothes, the fussy mannerisms – and turned him into a well-rounded person who can both make us laugh and break our hearts, often in the same episode."
